Last blog!!!I think I read this poem aloud in class.<br />
<br />
<div class="poem">
<div style="padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;">
What happens to a dream deferred? </div>
<br />
<div style="padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;">
Does it dry up </div>
<div style="padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;">
like a raisin in the sun? </div>
<div style="padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;">
Or fester like a sore— </div>
<div style="padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;">
And then run? </div>
<div style="padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;">
Does it stink like rotten meat? </div>
<div style="padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;">
Or crust and sugar over— </div>
<div style="padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;">
like a syrupy sweet? </div>
<br />
<div style="padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;">
Maybe it just sags </div>
<div style="padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;">
like a heavy load. </div>
<br />
<div style="padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;">
<em>Or does it explode?</em></div>
<div style="padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;">
<em> </em></div>
<div style="padding-left: 1em; text-indent: -1em;">
I don't really understand how the meaning of this poem translates to the words used. I'm not sure what a dream has to do with rotten meat..... and other analogies. I don't get this poem at all.<em> </em>I stared at this poem and re read it about 10 times and came up with absolutely nothing. WHAT DOES IT MEAN!?</div>

I had to research the internet to get some more insight on what this poem is about. What I got out of it was that the speaker was standing in the woods, and was talking about some sort of fork that was in the road. Both sides of the fork were covered with leaves. The speaker takes one side explaining that he will take the other on some other occasion, Although he knows he probably won't have another opportunity to do so. He claims that he look the road that was less traveled. The end. I like poems I just can't even interpret them correctly. I'm not much of a writer and I'm definitely not much of a poem analyst. When partygoers arrive they play cards and crap and they have some coffee. The Baron gets some scissors and manages after a few tries to get Belinda's hair. Belinda is MAD. She is asked to give her anger up for good humor and sense, which are considered moral qualities. The lock got lost in all the confusion and Belinda is consoled by being told that the lock has been taken up into the heavens and immortalized. This story doesn't have any sort of logic or point to it whatsoever.Alexandra Colehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02043133519658810564noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4654971506767778922.post-61239008439891685872013-04-26T18:25:00.004-07:002013-04-26T18:25:59.287-07:00the caskThis is the story that I chose for my fourth paper. it is about two people that are friends at first and one seeks revenge on the other. basically he lures him into this little basement thing because he knows how much his friend loves wine so he takes him to wine taste and ends up getting him wasted and buries him alive. Out of all the stories we have read I actually liked this one a little bit. It actually had something to it and not just a bunch of words thrown together to make a short story. I have wanted to get revenge on someone before and more than once. But I don't think that I have it in me to actually lure someone somewhere to murder them. Unless they like had sex with my husband or messed with my kids or something. which by the way I don't have a husband and i have no kids but IF I did , that would be the only way I could go to that extent. Mrs. Hopewell believes that there aren't enough good country people in this world. She says you don't see honest people anymore, that is unless you go way out into the country. Hulga has a deformity, she has a wooden leg. She was so insecure about it at first but now she owns it! She doesn't ever let anyone see it though, and she takes care of it all by herself. Manley tells her that he likes her leg because it makes her different and she thought her heart was about to beat out of her chest. The people Mrs. Hopewell think are good country people are really the exact opposite. Eyes are the most important symbol. They are compared to many different things and they are used to reveal that the people Hopewell thinks they are is not really who they are. I don't really like this story that much. Again I don't really see a climax or any part of this story that intrigued me. It reminded me kind of like a dead end. You know at the end of it, it isn't going anywhere. <br />

They are waiting on a train to Madrid. The man orders some beer and the girl stated that the hills that were close by looked like white elephants. As the story goes on the American who is the man we have been talking about says he wants the woman to have an operation but doesn't tell us what kind of operation. He just says it will be simple. The woman is quiet for quite some time then asks what will happen to her after the procedure. He tells her it will be just like it was before but it will fix all of their problems. The girl agrees with him even though deep down she is not okay with it. He tells her he won't make her do anything that she doesn't want to do but he says it is the best thing that they can do. She made him promise that he will still love her after the surgery and they will live happily ever after. The bartender comes back and gives them more beer and explains to them that the train will be there shortly. The story ends pretty much stupidly. There isn't really a point to this story it has no plot, no climax, no nothing. I personally hated it. <br />

It is being recollected from the memories of the narrator, Tom. Tom works in some sort of warehouse to support both his sister and his mother who do not work. His father, Mr. Wingfield deserted them when they were children and has not been around since nor have they heard anything from him, besides the post card that is. The post card only consisted of two words: Hello and Goodbye. Tom and Laura's mother, Amanda grew up in a different way then her children have and she often reminds them of this when she talks about her youth. She can't stand the fact that her daughter disabled with a brace on her leg. She is very shy, she doesn't like to be noticed and she will do whatever she can to avoid it, she dropped out of business college because she was so afraid she would humiliate herself. While her social awkwardness runs her life, her mother just wants her to marry wealthy and live a lavish life. Her mother comes up with this idea to set Laura up with someone from Tom's work at the warehouse. Tom picks out a random guy to bring home for dinner and it just so happens to be the guy Laura had crush on back in grade school. She was such a wreck she refused to come to dinner and so she sat on the couch while her mother, her brother and their guest ate dinner. After dinner Jim comes up to her and sort of bring her out of her shell. She reminded him of the time in school when he asked why she had been sick and she replied "pleurosis" he thought she said Blue Roses. As they were talking she shows him her favorite glass animal which was a unicorn. He accidentally broke it which made the unicorn just a horse. She told him that he could have it as a memory of her. They and had a few moments, kissed and then he told her that he was engaged. Heartbroken, he left and she was left to cry in her mother's arms all night. Not much longer after Jim comes over to visit, Tom decides he is going to quit his job at the warehouse and travel to pursue his dream as a poet. He doesn't realize until years later that he has a guilty conscience about leaving Laura alone. THE END<br />

I didn't like this story as much as I thought I would have. I think that it was sort of dull and that it could have had more to it to keep me interested. Alexandra Colehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02043133519658810564noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4654971506767778922.post-74833772717131930202013-02-13T08:48:00.003-08:002013-02-13T08:48:57.325-08:00A good man is hard to find Well the story starts off with the Grandmother trying to convince her son Bailey to go on vacation to Tennessee instead of taking their family to Florida. She points out to the family that there is an article in the newspaper or something talking about the Misfit, who was an escaped convict that was supposedly heading towards Florida. Bailey does not listen and he says he is taking his family to Florida like they had originally planned. The grandmother sneaks her cat, Pitty Sing, in a basket in the car on the trip. The family stops at a restaurant and begin speaking with the owner of the place. The grandmother mentions the Misfit to them and Red Sam (the owner) simply says "A good man is hard to find." As they get on the road again the grandma suddenly remembers some plantation or farm of some sort that she visited before. She says that it is at the end of a driveway that has oak trees all along the driveway path. She lied to them and said that this house had some sort of secret entry way to make the house seem more interesting. And the grandchildren excitingly begged their dad, Bailey, to take them to this house. The family drives deep into the woods and the grandma randomly remembers that the house was in Tennessee, not in Georgia. Disturbed by her mistake she jerks, which made Pitty (the cat) escape from the basket and it startles Bailey (who is driving), and ends up wrecking the car. A car passing by stops after they see the family and three men carrying guns get out of the car. The grandmother screams at the top of her lungs because she realizes that it is the Misfit. It is not a good thing that she pointed him out because now I'm assuming he's going to kill them all anyway. The grandmother asked him if he'd shoot a lady like her and he replied that he wouldn't want to. She then tells him that he's a good man and that he comes from good people. She tells him he's a good man repeatedly hoping it would save her life. She asked if he ever prayed, as he said no the grandmother heard two gunshots. He ends up killing everyone and saving the grandma for last. I think this story is stupid. It doesn't have a good ending, the plot it sort of boring, and no matter what the grandma said or did, she was going to die anyway. She believes there is something strange about this house but she hasn't figured it out yet. She is currently suffering from a case of depression and also of her marriage. Her husband being her doctor demeans her thoughts and concerns all together. She is just a woman in his eyes. His treatment for her is that she do nothing physically active and his objective is having her "free her mind." I'm assuming at this point we realize that the wife is the narrator. The wife eventually starts talking about their home. She describes it positively for the most part but describes certain things strange. Like a disturbing ringing sound. She is especially bothered by the yellow wallpaper in the bedroom that her husband put her in. Her thoughts are beginning to take over her body as she describes the wallpaper as "revolting." She is then soon interrupted by her husband's approach. After summer begins to pass she starts getting better at keeping her journal from her husband which means she's hiding her true thoughts from him. She is beginning to get lonely as any normal human being would. She needs activity and sunlight. The yellow wallpaper starts beginning to really bother her at this point. She describes the room exactly as it is. Dingy, old, paper torn off the wall in certain spots, the floor dinged up. More time passes, her husband's sister comes in and checks on things, her family visits and both of those had left her very very tired. She explains that the wallpaper is growing on her and that trying to figure out the pattern has become her hobby. As her obsession widens she explains the wall paper as a woman "stooping down and creeping." John often silences her when she tries to talk about leaving the house and as he denies it her repulsed fascination worsens. The wallpaper is dominating this woman. She is becoming enigmatic and possessive, she isn't sleeping. The following day she goes into a psychosis state and begins ripping the paper off the wall. She is hopelessly insane at this point in the story. When her husband breaks into her locked room he sees what is going on and faints. This is when the story ends. What happens next ?........ It's sad that under the control of a man he has a hypothetical way to make a woman insane. <br />

Elisa and Henry Allen live on a ranch where Elisa gardens for a living. While Elisa is gardening on a cold winter day her husband is talking to two men that work with some sort of a meat company. After the men speak with her husband, get in their car and drive off Henry comes up to Elisa where she is working diligently on her mums. Henry begins to praise Elisa on her fine work and explains that she should turn her talents to an orchard. She was very thrilled about hearing this suggestion but it then seemed like her husband was only kidding with her. She asks him what they men were doing there and he explained to her that they were with a meat company and explains to her that they bought something from him for a decent price. He wants to take her into town that night so that they can celebrate. Teasingly he asks her if she would like to go and see the fights and she told him that she wouldn't. Her husband then leaves and she goes back to working on her mums. A wagon with a man driving it appears in the distance. The wagon turns into Elisa's yard and the man gets out and starts talking to Elisa. He tells Elisa that he simply trails nice weather. He asked her if she had any work for him to do and her response is no, she repeats herself multiple times as the man insists on finding something for him to do because he is hungry. He then asked her about her mums and asked if it would be okay if he has a customer that would love to raise some. Thrilled, Elisa gives him some roots in damp sand to take with him. They continue to talk about different things like the stars and his lifestyle and Elisa finds two pans for him to fix. After paying him 50 cents he goes on his way and she stays in the garden, thinking to herself. She goes into her home, bathes, washes up and gets dressed. Henry tells her she looks strong and she is distraught by this at first but then agrees with him. As they head for Salinas, she notices an accumulation of shoots on the side of the road that the man had thrown away. She turns her head and continues on talking to her husband and they start talking about the fights. She asked him if women went to those kinds of things and he replied some do some don't and asked if she would ever like to go to one. She told him no as she pulled over her coat on her face so he could not see her sulk. And then the story ends. Alexandra Colehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02043133519658810564noreply@blogger.com0
